Mypaint 1.1 for windows Download link

Today I thought I would give the latest version of Mypaint 1.1 for windows a Quick test.
I must say it is not to bad. There are some pretty good brushes. I may do a video review of it in a week or so.
So here is a 20 minute speed paint I did to test it out. so far it works well with my Intous 5 touch.
I will post more about this free painting and drawing app later on.
Here is the link to the download. http://opensourcepack.blogspot.fr/2013/01/mypaint-and-pygi.html

Female Pirate concept

Here is todays sketch.
With this sketch I was trying to capture an idea and see if I could get the form of the character to read. This is just a concept sketch but most of all practice.

Merry Chritstmas and a few study sketches

I have not posted anything in several days so I thought I had better get busy.
Any way today is Chritstmas and I spent the morning with my Grand kids and my wife of course.
I have to go back to work in the morning, so I thought I would get some study done.
Here are a few sketches. I am trying to focus in on drawing feet and legs. I am not try to get them perfect but just want them to read. I am still just drawing manikins and adding a few details here and there but really want to try to keep the proportions while drawing gestures.
Well I could ramble on a while but got get some sleep.

Drawing without reference

Here are a few more sketches.
The first one is without reference. I like to use reference most of the time, but sometimes I think it is good to just draw from your mind. I think it helps you see where you are as far as keeping proportions and anatomy. I am fully aware that I still have a long ways to go.
I have also been doing some study on painting skin, of coarse I not ready post any paintings just yet.

Spiderman pose

Here is another quick sketch. This time I used Sketchbook express for sketching and exported the sketch as a .psd to see if Krita would import it correctly. I had no issues at all importing the image into Krita as a .psd.
I like using Spiderman as reference for gesture drawing because of the insane poses.

How to Draw Tips | The 5 STAGES of a Drawing

Found this great tutorial that really helped me get refocused on the figure drawing process.

Here is todays final sketch. I used Spiderman as my inspiration.
I really need to work on drawing hands.
This sketch was drawn using Krita for Windows.

One last sketch tonight. Most of my sketches are not that good but I know the more I study and sketch the better I will be.
What is funny about this sketch is that it almost looks like a Manga character, even though I am just not into Manga.

Capturing form and gesture

I did a couple of sketches today. I tried not to focus on detail, but tried to capture more of the gesture and basic form in these sketches.

Had time this morning for 15 min. practice sketch and paint.
Going to spend the rest of the day with the family and watch football.

Monday, November 25, 2013

well here is another superhero sketch.
Yes I know it is not to pretty, but I limited myself to 15 min. today. First I would draw the gesture and then quickly flesh it out. I still need to study the leg  structure more, well I should say all the human anatomy.
Sketching gestures should be done as often as possible, at least that is what i am told anyway. So I am doing it and I am not so worried if it looks goofy, just try to improve each drawing session. With time I think I will be able to keep the proportions better because I will continue to study anatomy. The more  familiar I become with anatomy the more I will understand keeping proportion and drawing perspective.

On last sketch for today. I wanted to get several done today but had other stuff that had to get done. One thing I did find the other day I thought I should pass along is a really good arm drawing tutorial on Digital tutors it is a photoshop tutoial but you should be able to follow along in Gimp, Krita or any drawing software you choose. You have to sign up for a demo account but it does not cost anything other than a little time. Here is the link for the Arm drawing tutorial in photoshop http://www.digitaltutors.com/tutorial/239-Drawing-the-Arms-and-Hands

This sketch is not that great but I am learning something new every time i pickup my stylus. I am using a Intuous 5 touch.

Figure Drawing starting with basic forms

I did a quick figure drawing study this morning.
I know this image may look a little strange, but this form began by just drawing out a  couple of cubes and the slowly adding more rounded and smooth forms on layers above the cubes. I am beginning to understand the term 2d sculpting. I hope to get plenty of arm and leg drawing done today. I could start drawing the arms and legs by drawing out cylinders. Not today, I think I will draw starting with basic forms and then build on top of that. The reason for doing it that way, is that it helps me  visualize the 3d form in perspective.
So later today or tomorrow I will post the results of drawing the arms and legs this way.

Figure Drawing, learn to draw, how to draw the female body

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Only had time for a 15 min. sketch today. Sketching anatomy is not something you can lean in a few days. Keeping  proportions while drawing the human figure is not easy. I am still focused in on drawing arms, but really need to get to the legs and hands. Well no need to rush.
I will draw as often as I can and study anatomy and proportions. Foreshortening and  perspective is something I have studied a little but it needs a lot more attention. I think the biggest thing about figure drawing has to be, keep at it.
Right now I am drawing using, sort of a Marvel comic superhero style  proportions.
The sketch I did today was just a quick glance at a  reference  image and then go go go.
Maybe I will be able to post another sketch tomorrow.
So here is todays sketch.

I did some more sketching today. Right now I am focused in on drawing mostly arms and shoulders.
Also I am no longer using FireAlpaca. I have not uninstalled it just in case i need it. FireAlpaca is great for sketching, but I downloaded and install latest Alpha version of Krita for windows.
The newest version is working great. In the past if you Krita for windows had issues if you were running a Nvidia Card.
Well the Krita devs have hit a home run on this one. After I downloaded Krita and installed it the first thing I did was enable the opengl rendering and it worked. The opengl setting makes zooming and rotating the canvas very smooth and also seems to make the dynamic brush resize work as it should.
One of the best features of Krita is it is free.
Krita has so many feature I will not even try to talk about them all right now. Krita is great for sketching, inking and painting.
Krita has a great brush engine.
If you are a comic book artist or just like to paint  traditionally and would like to try digital painting, give Krita a try.                                                        Krita can be download at http://krita.org/

Here is my first sketch in Krita.
I know it is not pretty, but I am just learning.

Monday, November 11, 2013

Well I finally got brave enough to post a study sketch. For the next couple of weeks I am going to draw arms, hands and legs. I think I will draw the arms to start with. Maybe draw the arms in different poses and position. I still have a lot to learn about figure drawing. I will admit that right now am leaning toward drawing comic superheros. Drawing Marvel style  heroes is something I have always wanted to do.
So anyway this is my first real attempt to draw the arm from the front view.

At last had some time to make a post.
I plan to be adding some additional pages to this blog soon with video tutorials about figure drawing soon.

The first page I plan to add is the FireAlpaca page. As soon as I finish this post I will start working on it.
